Meet Our Gracie Barra Boca Raton Instructors
Sergio Costa is a second degree black in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and has dedicated over half of his life to Jiu-Jitsu. He began his training in Brazil 17 years ago and has a long history teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu both abroad and in the United States. Professor Sergio trained in Brazil under Grand Master Osvaldo Alves, one of the few red belts in the world who is highly respected in Brazil.
Under the influence of Grand Master Osvaldo Alves, Professor Sergio learned and achieved a higher level of technique and teaching ability. He has taught classes and conducted training seminars at various Gracie Barra academies across the United States and Brazil. Professor Sergio has experience teaching kids, adults, Law enforcement and high-level athletes. Most recently, he has developed training seminars for the students of UFC fighter Spencer Fisher.
Professor Sergio is a successful international competitor with multiple championship medals. In 2012, he entered the global stage and he won a bronze medal at the World Championship sponsored by the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (“IBJJF”).

Professor Sergio leads by example both on and off the mats, he is an exceptional role model to his students. He continues to train, teach and participate in internationally recognized competitions.
Coach Shina is a Purple Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. She has been training for 4 years under The Gracie Barra Red Shield.
Her coaching career started at Gracie Barra West Palm Beach, where she trained and learned from Professor Wally Gustafson and Professor Aldo Campos Sr. Both imprinted her with the essentials and fundamentals of the Gentle Art. It was here she received her Blue Belt.
Coach Shina continues to develop her coaching and Jiu Jitsu skills at Gracie Barra Boca Raton, learning under Professor Sergio and Professor Fabiano. She assists in the development and growth of our Kids Classes, Summer Camps and After School Programs.
Coach Shina is a strong supporter of Women’s Jiu Jitsu. She works hard to build the Gracie Barra Boca Raton Pink Team, guiding and supporting them through each step of their Jiu Jitsu journey.

Professor Marcos Andrade is a First Degree Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. His Jiu Jitsu journey started 21 years ago in Amazonas(Brazil), where he trained under Professor Paulo Coelho and Sensei Henrique Machado at Gracie Barra Amazonas.
Thanks to these outstanding instructors, Professor Marcos qualified for the International Abu Dhabi Ju Jitsu Tournament, is a 3X Brazilian Champion and 5X Amazonas State Champion. Professor Marcos has trained and competed as a Black Belt for five years. Under the leadership of Professor Sergio Costa, he now represents our school in competitions around the world as a Gracie Barra Boca Raton Athlete. He currently holds the Black Belt Heavy Weight Champion Title of both the IBJJ Miami Open and IBJJ Houston Open.
